The Scandinavian Gem Symposium starts 9.30 Saturday 25 August "Kulturkuben", Värgårdaskolan, Östgötagatan 8, Kisa.

The program for saturday 25th August consists of presentations by our invited speakers. In the evening the Conference dinner at Rimforsa Strand Hotel. Do not forget to make your dinner reservation when buying your ticket!

The Symposium continues Sunday 26th with workshops at Rimforsa Strand Hotel on Sunday 26th August. The workshops are not yet determined but will include how to us UV-light to detect synthetic diamonds, photographing gemstones and more.

There are two ticket options, one-day tickets for Saturday only and two-day tickets that include the sunday workshops.

Jeffery Bergman on the topic of Ethiopian Emeralds.

Jeffery Bergman, SSEF, SGC, founder and director of Primagem in Thailand, is an American gem dealer with more than 40 years of experience in gemstone and fine jewelry mining, cutting, wholesaling and retailing. He has appeared on the BBC, CNN, NBC, ABC and GEO; and has been featured in Time, USA Today, National Geographic, Gems & Gemology and Discovery Channel magazine. Jeffery is a regular guest speaker at gem lab seminars and gemological association conferences and universities .

Helen has a broad commercial, international and academic background in the jewellery industry. Enchanted by gemstones since childhood, and specialising in ancient gems at Oxford, Helen moved directly into the field from University, gaining her FGA with Distinction. She started her career in the jewellery trade in London, moving into the international auction houses, and later becoming a Professeur d'Histoire des Bijoux et Gemmologie while also running her own business in Geneva. During ten years as a jewellery specialist for Sotheby’s and Christie’s in London and Geneva, Helen valued, sold and researched many world-class gems and important collections, including the jewels of HRH The Princess Margaret, sister of the Queen of England. Helen joined Gübelin in 2013 to launch and run Gübelin Academy, combining her passion for gems, jewellery and the sharing of knowledge.

Martin P. Steinbach

We are very glad to re-confirm Martin P. Steinbach as a speaker for the third Scandinavian Gem Symposium! Martins speach is entiteled "Star ruby, star sapphire and star emerald, from antiquity through the mythical middle ages to modern times"

Martin P. Steinbach graduated in 1982 from the German Gemological Association (DGemG) as a Gemologist and is a Fellow of the Gemological Association of West Germany (FGG), and he graduated as an „Accredited Gemologist“ (A.G.) in 1983 with the “Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences” (AIGS) in Bangkok, Thailand. In 1982 he received a Diploma as a Diamond-Expert with the DGemG in Idar-Oberstein.
